If you've been searching for that special horse you can take to the show pen, win on, then come home and have it be a jungle gym for the kids or grandkids... look no further, Ruby is your horse! In the show pen, is a 3x ARHA World Champion in Amateur Boxing, Select Boxing, and Amateur Ranch Cutting. She is also an ARHA Reserve World Champion in Select Ranch Cutting. On cattle, she's automatic, drop your hand and she will go to work. She is the perfect teacher for someone looking to get started or go further in the show pen. She's not just a cow eating machine either... she is a truly broke horse that also rides properly in the arena. She gives her face, is broke through her body, pops right off into her leads, has a great stop, and effortlessly maneuvers off your seat and leg. The best part about her is that you don't have to be an expert to pilot her. I've taught countless beginner kid lessons on her where she slowly plods along the rail while the kids are trying their hardest to post the trot and steer at the same time.. ;-). More often than not, this starts off with them pulling and balancing on her face. She takes it like a saint and never makes them pay for their mistakes. We've taken her on overnight camping trips, countless trail rides, ponied colts off of her, rode bareback in a halter and lead rope around the farm, hauled her to cattle practices and sortings, and she's even stood patiently while the lesson kids tried to learn to swing up on a horse from the ground bareback.. many, many, times! :-) She currently stalls during the day and turns out in small mixed herd at night. She's not mareish in the slightest and gets along great with the others in her field. To catch her, she'll walk right up to you in the field and basically put her head right in the halter. Originating in Suffolk, England, Suffolk Punch horses are considered one of the rarest draft breeds in the U.S. Owning Sampson this past year has been an absolute joy! He never has a bad day - rain, snow, or shine, he's the first to meet you at the pasture gate, the first to stick his head out of the stall, and the first one ready to hop on the trailer to head for the trail. The perfect partner for Sampson is someone who wants to piddle around the arena, haul out to some trails, a local show here and there or even a hunter pace or two! Under saddle, Sampson rides very true to your leg. He collects in the bridle and gives his face nicely, easily maneuvers off your seat and leg, has a nice little neck rein, easy transitions and good breaks. One of my favorite things about the way he rides is that he is light moving and agile for a draft horse. He is not heavy footed or rough to ride. His personality is what will really win you over... He is absolutely an 'in your pocket' kind of horse and is the type that is way more interested in people than other horses.. if he sees you, he's booking it to the gate or fence for some attention. He stands like a statue to be groomed, tacked, and bathed and loves to stare out the wash rack window during his baths!
